Usability/UI is also not on oracle level i would say. Well my impression on this (working as developer on 'real' web application) is that it's beta version of what will be cool thing in oracle version 12 probably. Recently i had to google for v$session query to see which session is actually sitting on cpu - that used to be much easier with client EM in 9i!
It seems to be unstable also - when db is under load - no chance to connect and see what sessions are actually active.
When you say small java app - it seems to me that for such 'small java app' just takes too much memory. I have to disagree with you about html EM in 10g.
